Things that I have discovered can make or break a run, especially when you are training and working toward running longer and faster!
We all know a good pair of running shoes are a must, but have you ever considered a good pair of socks? My friend Kim, suggested a brand of compression socks called "features" that she uses...OMG, I love them. They wick the sweat away, they compress during your run...they are heaven! www.feeturesrunning.com
For us ladies that need headbands, to find one that does not slip while we are working out or running can be hard. I just bought this one yesterday, but considering it hasn't moved through my workout or my NAP today, I can say IT DOESN'T MOVE. hahaha

Do you get shin splints? Cramps in your legs? I used to until I started foam rolling. Huh? Yeah, a large thick version of a pool noodle can do wonders for those muscles. You can get one almost anywhere. Here are few examples, but you can google more. http://www.womenshealthmag.com/fitness/foam-roller-exercises
Something that I also discovered that not only gives me a boost when running, but a boost in the early mornings when working out is E&E drink mix. It's an Energy and Endurance drink that wakes ya up without any jitters or weird feelings. My favorite thing is that it has less sugar than most "energy" type drinks or mixes...only 4g. Perfect for not sabotaging your weight loss.

For me, running in shorts are not fun or comfortable...I'm constantly pulling at them. So my go to attire is compression capris. My favorite brand is Under Amour, but recently found some decent ones at Walmart. I like the compression feeling because you don't feel flabby while running...which truly helps when you've finally got enough guts to get out there and start running. When shopping for them, I was surprised that the size I was getting was actually a size smaller than I thought...so be sure to try them on and make sure they are compressing!!
HRM and GPS devices to record calories burned and distance/pace. I am looking at a Garmin Forerunner 220, of course I have to save some $ to get it. Currently I use my phone with a GPS app...there are a ton that are free: mapmyrun, runtastic, etc. I do have a Garmin Vivofit HRM that I use during runs. It is not accurate as far as distance or pace, but it's great to watch to see if you need to push harder or if you are pushing too hard, plus it will give you a better calorie burn read.
I used to use an app called Couch to 5K. It's a free app that will tell you through your phone when to walk and when to run as it gradually works you up to longer runs. It is very helpful!!
I'm sure I can come up with a lot more things, and I will...I will post more later. Hope it helps you get on the way to running!!!
